Lead Yourself First

The most difficult person you will ever lead is yourself. That's not a line I picked up somewhere — it's what I've watched hold true across years of coaching leaders who had the strategy right and still felt something wasn't working. Executive coaching starts here: finding your blind spots before they find you.

Our Leadership Services

Your greatest strength, overused, becomes your most reliable source of failure. The story you carry from your past is shaping how you read the people in front of you right now. And somewhere below conscious awareness, an inner voice — what Positive Intelligence calls a Saboteur — is steering decisions you think you're making freely.

You have them. I have them. Every leader does.

That's why coaching here doesn't start with generic leadership theory. It starts with the Strengths Deployment Inventory (SDI), which reveals your core motivations and how they shift under conflict — it's the same assessment I use in team facilitation work, so if your organization ever brings me in at the team level, your results carry forward instead of starting over. Alongside it sits the Saboteur Assessment, which names the specific internal voices, like the Judge, the Controller, and the Pleaser, that quietly undermine good leadership from the inside. Once you can name a Saboteur, you can catch it in the moment instead of being run by it.

From there, sessions build toward four learnable skills: Positive Intent, Service Orientation, Personal Accountability, and Strength-Based Agility. Not personality traits. Practices.

Every Leader Has a Blind Spot

How It Works

I work in person with executives across Northern Colorado — Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, Greeley, and the surrounding region — and virtually with leaders anywhere in the country. Virtual isn't a lesser version of this coaching. It's the same coaching.

Every engagement follows the same path: a free discovery call to see if this is the right fit, the SDI and Saboteur Assessment before session one so we start with real data, ongoing 1-on-1 sessions grounded in whatever you're actually facing that week, and a concrete piece of application to practice before each next session.

Some leaders come in for a few focused months around a specific transition. Others stay in ongoing coaching for a year or more. We'll figure out what fits on the discovery call.

Two quick questions people usually ask:

  1. Is virtual coaching really as effective as in-person?
Yes. The work — the assessments, the structured conversations, the accountability — happens the same way over video as it does in the room.

  2. Is this confidential?
Yes. What's discussed in coaching stays between you and your coach, full stop.
